June 18th & July 2nd ~ 7 nights

For 2008 we are delighted to return for a third year to the luxurious and wonderfully relaxing Wold Cottage, near to Wold Newton, that has rightly proved so popular over the last two years. This splendid venue allows us to combine the very best of our North Yorkshire holidays of recent years with new destinations further East. Our home for the week is surrounded by the lovely and deserted lanes of The Wolds, well off the tourist track, and, we will explore these and the wonderful views afforded, liberally!
Our itinerary for this holiday hopes to include: The Yorkshire Wolds foremost stately home of Sledmere House and Gardens. Burton Agnes Hall, a magnificent example of Elizabethan architecture, with a simply lovely walled garden The outstanding grandeur of Beverley Minster. The unspoiled charming Regency seaside resort of Filey, the spectacular views from the magnificent Bempton Cliffs, home to England's largest seabird colony, and a stop at famed Flamborough Head, one of the most spectacular areas of chalk cliffs in Britain. The ever popular small market town of Helmsley. Pickering with its superb church featuring the most extensive mediaeval wall paintings in Britain and its wonderful Beck Isle Museum, also the picturesque village of Thornton-le-Dale. Plenty of the rugged glory of the North Yorkshire Moors, including a visit to the Danby Lodge Visitor Centre, and of the gentler rural landscapes in the vales; Several smaller private gardens including the exquisite Wytherstone Hall home of Lady Clarissa Collin, the exciting new walled garden at Scampston designed by Piet Oudolf with its dramatic contemporary perennial meadow planting, Rye Hill in Helmsley - surely one of the most remarkable 'suburban' gardens you will ever see and Hunmanby Grange, high in the Wolds, with its chalk soil and exposure to wind offering challenges that featured recently on 'Gardeners World'; Churches on the 'Sykes Trail' at Fridaythorpe, Kirkburn and Garton-on-the-Wolds with its unique complete cycle of Victorian wall paintings from the Creation to the Last Judgement. The 'hidden' 11th century Minster Church at Ellerburn. Burnby Hall Gardens at Pocklington with its National Water Lily Collection and the tallest standing stone in Britain at Rudston! Our hosts at Wold Cottage, Katrina and Derek Gray, also have part ownership of The Falling Stone pub in Thwing where we may well choose to eat when we take one evening meal out, also included in the price!
