PEMBROKESHIRE ~ 08
May 7th & September 8th ~ 7 nightsThis holiday has become a firm favourite over many years and we return to this lovely county once more for another relaxed, unhurried trip with a 'spontaneous' approach to our schedule - to suit the mood and the weather! Our holiday base will be near to Fishguard in Northern Pembrokeshire and from here we will explore much of the county - from its glorious coastline, surely one of Europe's finest, to some of the ancient Preseli Hills, source of the Stonehenge stones(?) and through the hidden byways, and old coal exporting quays of the Daugleddau Estuary that time forgot and few visit. Pembrokeshire's famed spring flowers should be in their full glory for the May holiday both on the cliffs and in the hedgerows of the sunken lanes. We would hope to spend plenty of time out of the minibus, enjoy a picnic and opportunities for short leisurely strolls perhaps including the wander out on the beautiful Goultrop Roads coastal path in September. On one evening we will eat out at the renowned Sloop Inn at the fascinating Porthgain harbour before returning home. Our itinerary will concentrate on all those lovely "hidden" lanes, tucked-away bays, clifftop vistas and stunning coastal views that Pembrokeshire does so well and that we have discovered on our travels. Strumble Head, Cwm yr Eglwys, Pwll Deri, Old Fishguard harbour, Abercastle, Abereiddy, Porthgain, St. Brides Haven, St. Justinians, Caerfai, the Mynydd Carningli and the Gwaun Valley all fit into this category along with others. We will of course plan to visit Fishguard itself, Britain's smallest city, St. David's, and also Tenby with its picture postcard harbour. The gardens at Colby and Picton Castle should be at their finest for the spring holiday and in September we will visit the fascinating museum of Pembrokeshire life at Scolton Manor and the pretty bustling small town of Narberth. On both tours we plan a leisurely coastal picnic and a journey along the spectacular St. Brides Bay coastal road through 'The Havens' (Little, Broad, Haroldston, Druidston and Nolton) to Newgale Beach. Llys y Fran Country Park, the " hidden" harbour at Solva, Newport Parog and Bay, Whitesands Bay, Nevern Church, Pentre Ifan cromlech, Carew Tidal Mill and the hilltop private gardens of Penlan Uchaf are all quite likely destinations too. Local "crafts"will also probably feature such as visits to the renowned Tregwynt Woolen Mill, Jim Harries the Wood Turner in Mathry and The Slate Workshops at Llangolman. Based near Fishguard on the edge of the Preseli Hills. Guest House : Erw-Lon, Trepant & Golwg-y-fro farms. The group will eat on three nights each at Erw-Lon & Trepant farms. Train meeting from Hereford & Carmarthen. All prices are in GB pounds (GBP), per person, per holiday,
and are pretty much all-inclusive - see holiday
