Byway Holidays
General Information

How to Book: You can phone, write or e.mail to enquire about any holiday. We can then advise you of availability and hold a provisional reservation for you while you send your BOOKING FORM and deposit of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS STERLING (100.00) per person, or the full amount if within eight weeks of the holiday. If you have a preference for a particular guest house (where a choice) please let us know and we will try to accommodate you there. Also, if you have a preference for bath or shower please tell us and we will try to meet your needs where available. Obviously the supply of any of our holidays is limited and we do start to book up early so an enquiry about availability is a good idea before sending any money. Of course should you wish to know more about a holiday or guesthouse or have other questions please do get in touch.
Prices: Include half board with a full cooked or optional lighter breakfast and a three course evening meal with tea or coffee; a full programme of day trips (e.g: five & a half or six days on a seven night holiday); collection from and return to the appointed rail or coach station; morning coffee and afternoon cup of tea; admission fees to anywhere we take you to visit. The only things not included in the price are lunches (you probably won't need much!) and 'bar' bills.
Food: The meals in all of our guesthouses are home cooked. It is worth noting though that because they are not large hotels there is usually a set menu. However your host will be happy to discuss meal plans and with prior notice most special diet needs and likes and dislikes can be met. Please let us know when you book of any special requirements or foods that you do not eat. On many holidays we take you out for one evening meal, occasionally for two, and these are also included in the holiday price.
Travel: Please let us know on your booking form if you will be joining your holiday by car, train or coach. If by train or coach we will meet you from and return you to the appointed station and will let you know an approximate meeting time on the booking confirmation we will send back to you. If coming by car we will send you directions for finding your guesthouse and a suggested arrival time. In all cases we will provide details of your hosts, their address and phone number in case you wish to contact them. If you are delayed on your journey and are able to contact us please call our mobile number 07780 991709 (or that supplied on your booking confirmation). The National Rail Journeycare phone number, if you would like assistance getting on and off trains, with your luggage and with making connections at any station where you might need to change, is 0845 3003005 - the service is free, easy to arrange in advance and usually very friendly and efficient.
No Smoking: Our minibus and all our guest houses and hotels are 'No Smoking'. Thank you for respecting this.
Insurance: We strongly recommend that you at least take out cancellation insurance. As a small company taking small groups we have to enforce our cancellation charges as detailed in our 'Booking Conditions' and never like to find any guest out of a pocket as a result. Most cancellations are as a result of sickness so it is much more comforting for all involved if this risk is insured. We do not recommend a particular insurer but the Post Office, for example, offer a simple cost-effective scheme for which a form can be acquired at most counters. Most insurers will also offer baggage and other aspects of cover that you may wish to consider.
Safety and Financial Security: Our minibus is modern and comfortable and seats seven passengers. It has only forward facing seats all of which have seat belts. For your financial security, and in compliance with the E.U. package travel directive of 1st January 1993, all advance payments and balances are paid into a separate account until your holiday has been completed.

WHO'S WHO AT BYWAY HOLIDAYS FOR 2008...........
Tony Hickman is the owner of Byway Holidays.
He will lead most of the holidays this year and it will usually be him
that you speak to on the phone.
Kathy Hickman will again be helping to run the Byway office and you
may well speak to her on the phone in Tony's absence.
Tony has now been involved in the holiday business for 11 years previously running his own companies for most of his working life latterly in the USA. Music & walking are his primary hobbies along, of course(!), with travel. Kathy is a retired Remedial Therapist and passionate gardener. Kathy & Tony have four adult 'children' living in London, Birmingham & Southampton and are due to become grand-parents for the first time in May of 2008!
David Leitch will lead our tours in Scotland. He lives at Burghead near Elgin in Morayshire.
David is now an assistant lecturer at Moray Technical College. He recently retired after 33 years from his appointment as a Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force during which he served all over the world. He is married to Heather who works in administration in a local care home. Whilst David's absolute passion is fly fishing and Heather's line-dancing, they both enjoy fine dining as well as a full and active life with golfing, skiing and visiting their now grown children who live in London and in Ohio, USA. David & Heather also become grand-parents (for the second time) in May 2008 (not really such a coincidence as their daughter is married to Tony & Kathy's 'middle' son!).
Byway Holidays Terms &
Booking Conditions

No contract exists until Byway have confirmed receipt of the above form and deposit. The balance will fall due no later than eight weeks before the start of the holiday. If the balance is not received as above then Byway reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled. Holidays booked less than eight weeks before the start of the holiday must be paid for in fill at the time of sending the booking form. The person signing the booking form guarantees payment of the total cost of the booking made on behalf of all persons for whom the booking is made.
Cancellation - Cancellations can only be accepted in writing. In the event of any cancellation, including the non-payment of the balance, the deposit paid will always be forfeited. In the event of cancellation after the balance has been paid the following scale of charges (as percentages of the total holiday cost) will be incurred:
56 - 42 days before start of holiday: 40% 41 - 28 days before start of holiday: 60%
27 - 14 days before start of holiday: 80% 13 days or less before start: 100%
Alterations -
By you: If you need to make any alterations to your holiday after booking has been confirmed, (e.g. change of date), then please give us as much notice as possible and, if we can, we will make the change. If alterations are not possible and you decide to cancel your holiday then the normal cancellation arrangements will apply
By Byway: Byway reserves the right to, at its discretion, change or amend any holiday excursion, itinerary or accommodation arrangement as it considers necessary or desirable, of for reasons beyond our control. Should cancellation or substantial amendment of any holiday be necessary, then we will inform you as soon as possible of these changes. If we have been able to make alternative arrangements then you will be given the option of accepting the amended holiday, transferring, or cancelling your holiday. In the event of you cancelling a holiday as a result of actions by ourselves or our agents then a full refund of all monies you have paid will be made.
We reserve the right to be flexible in the detailed arrangements of our holidays and itineraries - often to make a better holiday, but sometimes because it is necessary.
We reserve the right to remove any person or persons from any holiday if their behaviour is detrimental to others safety or enjoyment of the holiday. No refund or compensation will be paid to the offending party under such circumstances.
Baggage - It is best to assume that all baggage and personal articles are at all times in all circumstances at the owners risk. We take responsibility for taking reasonable precautions with baggage, but insurers only generally cover against belongings that are 'out of sight' in a vehicle - we ask you to ensure that you do this if leaving anything unattended in the vehicle, likewise we ask you to ensure that your baggage has been loaded into the vehicle. Travel insurance policies usually cover for baggage and personal effects.
Prices - Once we have confirmed your booking in writing no change will be made to the price on your booking confirmation and no surcharges will be added.
Our liability to you - We accept responsibility for ensuring that the holiday you have booked is delivered as described in our brochure, or on our website, and to a reasonable standard.
We will accept liability for claims for personal injury arising as a result of our staff and suppliers being negligent while in the course of their employment or contract.
However we cannot accept liability in these following circumstances:
a) If you or another member of your party is at fault.
b) If the failure is the fault of someone else who is not connected with providing the services which make up the Byway holiday which you have booked, and we have confirmed in writing.
c) Any unusual or unexpected circumstances beyond our control, which we could not have avoided even if we had used all care possible.
d) Any event which we, your guesthouse hosts, or any other supplier of any other element of your holiday could not help, expect, or prevent.
