YORK PRE-CHRISTMAS SPECIAL ~ 08

Kathy & I had so much fun with you enjoying the wonderful pre-Christmas entertainment in and around our favourite city of York last year that we have decided to do it all over again in 2008 - if enough of you want to come! We will again stay at The York Minster Hotel that looked after our needs so well last December. York is always a fantastic little city just to wander in anyway (and 'free time' will also be made available for you to do just that 'under your own steam') but in the run up to Christmas it really is a magical place with some tremendous events laid on for us all to enjoy.....please read on! In York

The itinerary is of course at this early stage still 'under construction' but following so many excellent events last year we hope to include again:
Carols in Kirkgate on the indoor Victorian street of the Castle Museum with the performers in period costume, 2 or 3 of the excellent Christmas offerings from the National Centre for Early Music, the splendid Medieval Feast at the historic Bedern Hall, the annual family carol concert at the magnificent York Minster, the incredible ice sculptures & The Festival of Angels, the seasonal Yorkshire & Continental street markets, the Castle, Yorkshire & National Railway Museums & a ride (optional!) on the fantastic new Yorkshire Wheel, not forgetting Barley Hall, Fairfax House, York Art Gallery, The Yorvik Centre and the world famous 'Shambles'!
On a night or two we will eat in the excellent York Minster Hotel restaurant. On other days we will visit on of York's most talked about eateries, 'The Blue Bicycle', and enjoy a York 'British' tradition - the carvery at Russells for 'Sunday' lunch! Not forgetting the memorable Feast & accompanying entertainment at The Bedern Hall!

What is included in the price?
7 nights en-suite Hotel accommodation; full English breakfast each morning; 7 three (at least!) course meals (some taken at lunchtime, some in the evening, the odd extra 'snack'!); wine or other accompanying drinks; admission fees to all events, concerts & venues included in the final itinerary; collection from & return to York station; all transport to our visits out of the city (& around the city too where appropriate); services of Kathy & I to guide you, accompany you or point you in the right direction as required! Tea, coffee & biscuits on our days outside York (& sometimes in York too!) & no doubt a few little extras over the days & evenings of your holiday! Enjoy!

Outside of York
We plan to spend two days of our holiday outside of the city. On one we will visit the world famous Castle Howard. At this special time of the year they do a magnificent job of decorating the entire Castle, laying on an excellent array of stalls in the Courtyard offering local crafts and wares and also provide a first rate Christmas lunch that we hope to indulge in! Our second 'day out' will take us to the ever popular pretty market town of Helmsley, on a winter journey up onto the magnificent North York Moors & then for a meal at the lovely home of good friends of ours in Thornton-le-Dale (if we speak nicely to them!)

Based on 'Bootham' in York - less than five minutes walk from The Minster & the City Walls.

Hotel : The York Minster Hotel. The original building dates from Victorian times and has retained the character and charm of this period. The warm and authentic atmosphere has been further enhanced with the addition of extensive modern facilities.
